Description
What you’ll see: A surprising and different fado show, a musical biographical tour through Coimbra’s famous song and guitar strains.
You’ll be introduced to the Coimbra’s fado musical scene, from the iconic fado notes and lyrics and its hidden stories, its history, its characters and their music, listening to the sound and Coimbra’s distinct voices.
Different from Lisbon, the Coimbra guitars are made to break the night silence in a balade style serenate where love, saudade and the bohemian life were sung but not only. Coimbra’s fado history doesn’t end in students’ love affairs but also involves itself in the opposition to dictatorship. The most notable songs against the salazar regime was Zeca Afonso but others ought to be remembered in Coimbra’s musical scenery and history.
A musical tour to take you through our city musical history, also explaining the difference from regular Fado to the Fado of Coimbra, and the specific Students Fado.
You’ll also meet the “fadistas” (fadista is what we call those men who sing the fado) and will have the opportunity to hear their stories too.
This a private show that follows all the limitations and directions from the health authorities concerning Covid-19 pandemic situation.
